Yesterday, we heard shocking allegations from a Lion Air passenger who reported one of the airline’s pilots to the Transportation Ministry because he offered an air hostess to passengers to compensate for their flight’s delay, before hearing moans coming out of the cockpit.
Lion Air last night quashed the allegations, saying it is false news that was spread across social media.
“It’s not true. We don’t know of any complaints like that. All of a sudden the news has spread, especially on social media,” said Lion Air Operations Director Daniel Putut Kuncoro Adi, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.
Daniel added that the passenger complaint filed by a passenger named Lambertus Maengkong doesn’t even exist.
“We checked, Pak Dirjen (Air Travel Director General Suprasetyo) said [the complaint] doesn’t exist,” he said.
However, Daniel confirmed that the flight mentioned in Lambertus’ complaint did take off from Surabaya to Bali on November 14. But there were no reports of pilot misconduct on that flight.
Could Lambertus have manufactured the complaint, which went viral on social media, potentially opening himself up for defamation charges? Or is Lion Air trying to cover up the incident?
