Lion Air cancels all flights from 5pm today to midnight, promises full refunds

A Lion Air meme poking fun at the airline’s three-day delay farce

In what seems to be the first moment of clarity for Lion Air’s stranded passengers after three days of flight delays, the airline finally cancelled all flights today in order to regroup and prevent more delays in the future.

“To prevent more lengthy delays we need to re-evaluate [our operations], so Lion Air is announcing that all Lion Air flights today starting from 5pm until midnight have been cancelled,” said Dwiyanto Ambarhidayat, Lion Air’s head of Corporate Secretary, as quoted by Detik today.

Dwiyanto said all passengers are entitled to a full refund should they apply for one. Passengers wishing to re-schedule a flight with Lion Air are required to go through the booking process again.

“Especially for Lion Air passengers who intend to travel on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (February 23 – 25), they will be given new tickets for free if they can provide the booking code from their refunded tickets,” he said.

“We apologize for the flight cancellations today but this step is necessary to prevent even more lengthy delays. We assure passengers who want a refund will get the full 100% refund for their tickets.”
