Left office-less after fire, Wisma Kosgoro employees create makeshift workspace in basement parking lot

Hypothetically, if our office burned down, we’d probably take full advantage by taking some time off work. But that sort of lazy mindset doesn’t apply to the conscientious employees at Wisma Kosgoro.

In case you don’t remember, the 16th to 20th floors of the Wisma Kosgoro tower in Thamrin, Central Jakarta were completely destroyed by fire on March 10.

The offices in the tower have remained shut for the time being. But that isn’t stopping Wisma Kosgoro building management’s employees from working inside the building – even if it means they have to work out of the basement parking lot.

“The power is still out inside [the tower] and it’s still dirty. So we made an emergency office here [in the basement],” an employee told Kompas today.

The employees set up more than 10 workstations in the basement parking lot, complete with a water dispenser in one corner. Many of them wore masks to protect themselves from dust in the basement.

So are these employees extremely dedicated, or do they have one very stingy boss? By comparison, other companies that occupied office spaces in the closed Wisma Kosgoro tower actually rented temporary office spaces in other buildings for their employees until it’s safe for them to return.
