Former Jakarta Governor has had a rough few years. After losing the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election, he was sentenced to two years for blasphemy in May of that year and divorced his ex-wife Veronica Tan in April due to her reported infidelity.

But things seem to be looking up for Ahok when he gets out of prison next year, starting with a new romantic chapter in his life.

On Sept. 4, Asia Times published an article by seasoned journalist John McBeth about how military elites are backing President Joko Widodo — a close ally of Ahok — in next year’s presidential election. McBeth then ended his article with a shocking revelation: Ahok will be among those to help Jokowi’s campaign but that his first priority after getting out of prison is “his pending marriage to the policewoman who served as his wife Veronica’s bodyguard and who stuck by him while he was incarcerated at the Police Mobile Brigade’s detention center in South Jakarta.”

While McBeth did not name his source for that particular information, it has nonetheless been all but confirmed by people close to Ahok. His lawyer, Teguh Samudera, yesterday said that Ahok had mentioned to him his intention to remarry upon leaving prison.

“Yesterday I met with him [in prison], we talked about all sorts of things. Yesterday we talked about the marriage again. But it was not said whether it’s with A or B. The date was also not mentioned,” Teguh told Detik.

Ruhut Sitompul, a former Democratic Party politician before he defected to support President Jokowi’s coalition and joined Ahok’s 2017 gubernatorial campaign, went further to confirm that Ahok and the mystery woman will tie the knot in January.

“I saw that she’s really beautiful, Pras (Jakarta City Council Speaker Prasetyo Edi Marsudi) showed me her photo,” Ruhut told JawaPos yesterday.

Ruhut went on to say that her beauty will be matched by Ahok’s post-prison physique (Teguh once said that Ahok spends a lot of his time in prison practicing kung fu and that he’s gotten “bulkier”).

“Congrats, while Ahok is in prison he’s been learning from a guru and he’s become this macho man because his body now is ok banget (Indonesian hyperbolic slang for “super awesome”),” Ruhut said.

Well, we wish Ahok an a-ok banget life filled with happiness with his new partner after his release from prison. According to his lawyer and sister, Fifi Lety Tjahaja Purnama, the date for Ahok’s release from prison is now set for January 24, 2019, after he received a two-month remission for his sentence.
