A brief but heavy downpour yesterday brought floods to South Jakarta’s Kemang neighborhood yet again – the fourth such incident in the last few weeks. In addition to re-raising questions about how the government plans to handle the frequent high-water levels in the hip neighborhood, this latest round of flooding also brought out a few surprises that shocked social media.
The enormous snake was identified as a python about 3 meters in length. It apparently slithered out of the sewers right in front of the Colony building on Jalan Kemang Raya.
“The snake was swept here by the flood. It came from one of the sewers,” Burhanuddin, a Bangka neighborhood official, told Kompas.
In addition to the python, a one-meter long lizard was also found nearby the same spot.
Some reports said the snake was dead. But according to Okezone, a public works officer who secured the python later sold it to a security guard at a Kemang cafe for Rp 150,000.
