An Indonesian man is seeking someone to buy his plot of land and marry his sister-in-law, in what has become another viral real estate ad in the country to be bundled with a marriage deal.
In the ad, which was posted on Facebook on Tuesday, the land owner, Aris Sofiyanto, wrote the following:
For sale: a 72 square meters plot of land in Griya Taman Bahagia housing compound in Gondangmanis, Kudus (Central Java). Includes a 5-meter wide paved road as access. Price is IDR100 million (US$6,834). Note: If the buyer is a match, he can marry my sister-in-law, who happens to be looking for a serious relationship.
Aris also included photos of his sister-in-law, named Dewi Rosalia Indah, prompting the post to go viral as many declared their intentions to become her suitors and that of the land.
Speaking to the media, Aris confirmed that he put up the ad and that he was not merely objectifying Dewi for a marketing stunt.
“If the buyer is a match, he can marry my sister-in-law. Note that they have to be a match; she is not a bonus,” he said yesterday.
Dewi said there are terms and conditions for the deal, claiming that a man from Singapore and another from Malaysia had already proposed to her thanks to the ad.
“I refused because I don’t know them. What’s certain is that if someone buys the land, I will want to get to know him first and not go straight to marriage,” she said.
“I have twice failed to marry, so I want to find someone who is good and willing to love me as I am.”
This story calls back to a similar viral real estate ad in 2015, in which a Yogyakarta woman said she would be willing to marry whoever bought her house. Last we heard from her, one man did purchase her house but she reneged on the marriage deal after finding out that he already has a wife. The woman has since gone on to become a minor celebrity in the country.
