Considering there have been incidences of male ojek motorcycle taxi drivers committing crimes against female passengers, it’s understandable that some women prefer not to ride ojeks for safety reasons.
Enter Ladyjek.
As its name suggests, Ladyjek is an ojek motorcycle taxi hailing app service by women, for women. The main difference between Ladyjek and other ojek companies is that it only employs female ojek drivers and it only transports female passengers.
“We founded Ladyjek because women are usually more comfortable riding a motorcycle with other women,” said Ladyjek director Brian Mulyadi, as quoted by Tempo yesterday.
Ladyjek is scheduled to launch tomorrow, and it seems they’re not in short supply of drivers.
“There are around 600 and 700 people who applied to be Ladyjek drivers,” Brian said.
At this point, it’s not clear if Ladyjek will also provide courier and food delivery services like other established online ojek companies do.
It’s good to see companies like Ladyjek pushing for even more innovation and diversity in the rapidly expanding online ojek market. Aside from its usefulness, we’re definitely a fan of their drivers’ neat blue and purple uniforms – they should certainly stand out from the sea of green-jacketed ojek drivers that are currently dominating the city.
