Jakarta was confirmed to be the host of this year’s World Wushu Championship in 2015 after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Wushu Indonesia Committee and the World Wushu Federation (IWUF) at the Sultan Hotel in Jakarta today.
“The championship will take place in Senayan,From November 13 to 18 or later. It is a great honor for Indonesia to be selected to host this prestigious championship,” said Iwan Kwok, the secretary general of the Wushu Indonesia Committee, as quote by Antara.
The MOU states that Indonesia must not only prepare the facilities for the competition but also house for participants.
Because of the size and scale of the competition, Iwan said staging them may cost as much as Rp 10 billion. He said he hoped the government would lend their assistance.
For those of you who can’t tell your karate from your taekwondo, wushu is a specific type of modern Chinese kung-fu that combines aspects of many older forms and techniques. Competitive wushu has two distinct disciplines, forms and sparring. Action hero Jet Li was once the National Wushu Champion of China.
