KRL Commuterline to add 30 new trains from Japan by the end of the month, 90 more to follow

To keep up with an ever-increasing number of passengers, KRL Commuterline operators PT KCJ will add 120 “new” trains to its fleet in the near future.

According to BeritaSatu, the first batch of 30 used trains from Japan is scheduled to arrive in Jakarta’s Tanjung Priok Seaport on June 29. The other 90 will be sent to Jakarta in batches up until September of this year.

The addition to KRL Commuterline’s fleet comes at a very convenient time. In June 2015, the KRL Commuterline set a new record of transporting 914,840 passengers in a single day.

You may have also noticed that the KRL Commuterline trains have gotten even more crowded than usual lately, especially during rush hour. This is because more than 800,000 passengers commute using the KRL Commuterline each day.

PT KCJ hopes to be able to transport 1.2 million passengers daily by 2019.
