KRL Commuter Line getting 30 new trains from Japan today, 90 more to follow soon

In the near future, your wait for a KRL Commuter Line train should hopefully be significantly shorter thanks to today’s delivery of 30 new trains from Japan – the first of several.

The trains are scheduled to arrive at the port of Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, this afternoon. The arrival is just the first shipment out of the 120 trains that train operator PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek (KCJ) has purchased from one of Japan’s largest train operators, JR East.

“The plan is for the 30 electric trains, the first delivery phase out of 120 units, to arrive at Tanjung Priok port around 2:00 pm,” said the Director of PT KCJ, MN Fadhila, as quoted by Kompas.

According to Fadhila, the purchase is part of PT KCJ efforts to increase the number of trains in order to improve services for its users.

According to their data, PT KCJ has purchased 784 new trains and currently operates 880  trips per day in the Jabodetabek area.
