A clip of Ahok’s infamous interview with Kompas TV
You’ve probably seen the infamous video of Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama saying, “shit” several times live on Kompas TV on Tuesday last week. Even though Ahok has been criticized for his potty mouth, he hasn’t received any official sanctions for it. Kompas TV, on the other hand, isn’t so lucky.
Oddly, the Indonesian Broadcast Commission (KPI) sanctioned Kompas TV for failing to anticipate Ahok’s shit storm.
“When those words first came out [of Ahok’s mouth], the presenter should’ve cut the interview to a commercial break or even stopped the broadcast,” said Agatha Lily, Broadcast Content Monitoring Commissioner at the KPI, as quoted by Tempo yesterday.
“Or, Kompas TV could’ve turned off the audio so those words didn’t have to be repeatedly said on air.”
As a result, the KPI sanctioned Kompas TV by prohibiting the channel from airing interview segments in its Kompas Petang news program for three days, starting on Monday. Kompas TV is also required to issue a public apology during a primetime broadcast.
