A woman who worked in the red light district of Kalijodo has died five days after being stabbed by one of her customers.
The 21-year-old woman, identified by police by the initial S, met her killer at Bar Sinar Jaya in Penjaring, Kalijodo. After negotiating a price with him, they went to her room above the bar. After their transaction was completed, she saw her customer trying to steal her tablet and a power bank she had in her room by hiding it in his shirt.
S cried out for help. In a panic, the man started hitting her. When she did not stop, he pulled out a knife and stabbed her.
Hearing her screams, others in the bar rushed to her aid and managed to apprehend the killer and gave him a beating before police arrived to arrest him.
The victim was rushed to Atma Jaya Hospital for treatment. After receiving treatment for two days, S was taken out of the hospital at the request of her husband.
Police said they had enough evidence to put S’ killer behind bars.
“We have secured evidence in the form of a knife used to stab the victim, as well as two items belonging to the victim – a tablet and power bank unit,” Penjaring Police Chief Kus Subiantoro told MetroTV.
Police say the perpetrator will be charged with theft using violence, a crime that carries a maximum sentence of nine years in prison.
