Jokowi literally “walked backwards” to avoid reporters’ questions about Panama Papers and ’65 massacres

Right now, Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Security Affairs Minister Luhut Binsar Panjaitan is central to two pressing matters facing the Indonesian government: his name showing up in the Panama Papers and the government’s stance on the 1965 anti-communist purge in Indonesia.

But we have yet to hear any statements from President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s regarding Luhut lately, and it looks like we won’t anytime soon.

Today, Tempo reported that State Palace reporters wanted to ask Jokowi about the aforementioned topics and the president’s reaction would be pretty hilarious if it wasn’t so frustrating.

“Hmm? What’s that?” was all that came out of Jokowi’s mouth as he literally walked backwards away from the crowd of reporters.

We imagine this is a pretty accurate illustration of how it went down:

When he got to a safe distance away from the reporters, Jokowi finally smiled, waved and signaled to them that he’ll answer their questions another time.

Well, we hope Jokowi addresses these issues sooner rather than later, or even more people will lose their faith in his ability to lead the government on important issues.
