Seneng Mujiasih, also known as Jesse Lorena, spoke to her friend Robert van den Bosch mere hours before she was murdered in Hong Kong. When the two met at a nightclub in Hong Kong on Friday, the night of the murder, Jesse said she was leaving to have fun elsewhere.
“She said, ‘I’m going to have fun at a Halloween party,’” recalled Robert, a Dutch DJ who works at the nightclub Jesse frequented over the past four years.
“Those really were the last words. Those are the two things repeating in my head,” said Robert, as quoted by The Telegraph.
Hours later, Robert was shocked to hear that his friend Jesse had been murdered. He said he couldn’t believe such a kind person could meet such a tragic end.
“She was nice, normal, and didn’t do drugs. Her life didn’t have to end like this. It’s just crazy, really crazy. She was a girl who was always cheerful, always loving,” said Robert.
It was known that Jesse worked in Hong Kong for the past eight years. The 32-year-old woman from Sulawesi worked as a domestic helper and lived at a homestay not far from the apartment of her suspected killer, Rurik Jutting.
Robert denied that Jesse was a commercial sex worker. He said Jesse always had noble dreams.
“I think her dream was just to find a better life. The terrible thing is that her house in Indonesia was just finished and she said she would leave Hong Kong and go back to Indonesia to enjoy life. She said, ‘Soon I will leave.’ She was happy about it,” said Robert.
Jesse was found conscious in Rurik Jutting’s apartment with knife wounds to her neck and buttocks. Sadly, she died some time later at the crime scene. She was one of the two murder victims confirmed to be an Indonesian national, the other being 23-year-old Sumarti Ningsih.
