Ideal for carrying babies, not smuggling drugs
FT, a 35-year-old primary school teacher from Jember, East Java, was caught smuggling 16kg of Chinese methamphetamine in Muara Baru, Penjaringan, North Jakarta. The meth was hidden in 15 baby strollers.
Slamet Pribadi, head of Public Relations at the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), said FT was apprehended when she left a storage space in Muara Baru in a truck carrying 18 baby strollers.
“Our investigators were following FT since the truck went inside the storage space in Muara Baru. When the truck got out, we arrested FT and confiscated the meth that was hidden in the baby strollers,” Selamet said, as quoted by Kompas today.
The meth was divided up into 15 packages and hidden inside the pockets of 15 of the 18 baby strollers.
“The pockets where the meth was hidden looked like they were sewn up,” Selamet said.
FT admitted that she received Rp 20 million to smuggle the meth into Jakarta. About half of her fee went into buying the plane ticket to Jakarta and renting a truck among other operational costs.
“I became a drug courier because I was tempted by the pay, which is pretty good,” FT said.
But now it seems FT will have to pay heavily for her crime, as she could be charged with life in prison or the death penalty.
