In addition to the car, the career of an official at the Jambi Regional Representatives Council (DPRD) was destroyed after her son took a government vehicle out for a ride and crashed it in the most scandalous way possible.

In case you missed it, on Thursday evening, a 17-year-old high school student identified by his initials MSA took his 16-year-old girlfriend TA, who is also in high school, out for a ride in a government-owned Toyota Camry assigned to his mother. The boy, who does not have a driver’s license, reportedly took the car without her knowledge.

MSA crashed the car into an advertisement pole in front of a hospital before smashing into a parked Toyota Calya. The Camry, which was nearing the end of its official use and was going up for public auction, was totaled.

The incident was especially scandalous as TA was completely naked in the passenger seat when she and MSA were rescued from the car.

In his statement to the police, MSA said that he was getting intimate with TA in the car, which was parked, when an unidentified civilian caught them in the act. MSA panicked and floored the pedal, resulting in the crash. MSA sustained minor injuries while TA suffered a fracture in her leg.

It remains to be seen whether the teenage pair would face any criminal charges. MSA’s mother, however, has resigned from her position of secretariat head at the Jambi DPRD amid calls from Speaker Edi Purwanto and even Jambi Governor Al Haris for her termination.

In light of the incident, the governor has issued a set of instructions to public servants in the province pertaining to official vehicle use. One key regulation stresses that family members are not permitted to drive official vehicles.
