Mid-January usually means the peak of the rainy season, which means that the bajir is upon us once again in Jakarta. One particular area totally inundated with floodwater this morning is Jalan Boulevard in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.
Floodwater on Jalan Boulevard reached half a meter high, preventing vehicles from passing through the road. Muhammad Iqbal, head of the North Jakarta Police, deployed police officers to direct the flow of traffic.
“Our personnel are standing by along the road. We have prepared traffic posts as well. But there are still some vehicles brave enough to drive through [the flood],” Iqbal said as quoted by Vivanews this morning.
Iqbal said he suspects the flood was caused by overflowing canals in the area.
