Starting today, violating Jakarta’s odd-even traffic rule is a fineable offense on 16 additional major roads, as an expanded version of the vehicle rationing policy is now officially enforced.
The expansion of the odd-even rule — which only allows cars with license plates ending with an even number to be used on affected roads on even calendar dates and vice-versa for odd dates — was announced as part of Governor Anies Baswedan’s drive to reduce carbon emissions and combat the capital’s air pollution crisis, which has put the city administration and the central government under immense pressure in recent months.
After a month-long trial period, during which violators of the expanded rule were only given verbal warnings, a fine of IDR500K (US$35) now applies.
The map below lists all 25 roads affected in the expanded odd-even rule, with roads in orange being new additions to the policy.

The odd-even rule will remain in effect during weekday mornings from 6am-10am as before, but the evening hours have been expanded from 4pm-9pm (the odd-even was previously enforced until 8pm).
The odd-even rule does not apply to motorcycles and taxis and is not enforced on weekends or public holidays.
While there were talks that ride-hailing services’ cars would be exempt from the odd-even rule, the plan seems to have been put on hold for now as the government and traffic police have yet to agree on how to differentiate those cars with regular cars.
