The weekly Car Free Day in Hotel Indonesia Roundabout is just as much a chance to hold political rallies as well as a time to exercise and relax with the family.

One of those political rallies held in yesterday’s Car Free Day was to get Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama to step down from his position as the leader of the city-province.

Warta Kota reported that a group of people from an unknown organization asked for citizens to sign a petition to get rid of Ahok from City Hall.

They spread out a large white banner measuring 15m x 1m on the floor which read, “the people of Jakarta pull the mandate of the Governor of Jakarta (Ahok).”

Some citizens did sign their names on the large white banner, though it wasn’t entirely clear how many signatures were obtained for the petition.

Well, Ahok can’t please them all. Some are indeed upset at the governor as they believe his policies have been unpopular and have come at a cost for the citizens.

In that case, there were probably a lot of motorcyclists and hard line religious conservatives who signed the petition.
