Jakarta Police to shoot violent motorcycle robbers on sight

It speaks volumes as to how dangerous the current motorcycle robbery panic in the Greater Jakarta Area is that the head of the Jakarta Police, Inspector General Unggung Cahyono, instructed his officers to shoot violent and dangerous motorcycle robbers on sight.

“Up to now, there has been seven suspects who were shot to death in Jakarta,” Unggung said yesterday, as quoted by Warta Kota

Unggung said the police had to resort to this extreme measure because the motorcycle robbers are becoming more violent and are usually armed with knives and even guns.

“They don’t hesitate hurting victims who fight back. We’ve even had a police officer who was shot as he was chasing robbers,” he said.

As of yesterday, the police have arrested 29 motorcycle robbers from Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi.

“As many as seven others died because they tried to resist arrest and acted dangerously,” Unggung said.

The police also confiscated 120 stolen motorcycles and 21 stolen cars.
