Jakarta Police monitoring an ISIS-affiliated group in Jakarta

A pro-ISIS rally in Jakarta in 2014.

It’s no surprise that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has a lot of supporters within Indonesia, but it turns out that there may be a group affiliated with them here in Jakarta.

The Jakarta Police is monitoring this group’s movement in the capital, though information about them is understandably being kept a secret.

“I don’t want to say the name [of the group],” said Jakarta Police Chief Tito Karnavian, as quoted by Tempo yesterday.

Tito added that the group has been active in Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, and particularly Banten.

We hope that under Tito, who was once the head of the National Police’s Densus 88 Anti-Terrorism Unit, the Jakarta Police can keep our city safe from terrorist cells.
