As if the FBI doesn’t already have a lot on its plate right now, the Jakarta Metro Police announced that they may seek the help of the American intelligence service in tracking down the individual that posted leaked “pornographic” documents supposedly detailing a sex scandal involving Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Shihab.

Jakarta Metro Police Chief M Iriawan yesterday told the press that they believe the original spreader to be a particular member of Anonymous, the loosely associated international network of hackers, that they have traced back to US. With no jurisdiction to carry out an investigation there, the Jakarta Metro Police hopes that local law enforcement or intelligence agencies can give them a hand.

“Whether it’s the FBI or whoever else, we’ll look into it. If it’s not possible, we’ll look into other avenues,” Iriawan said yesterday, as quoted by Detik.

“Every country has their own rules and no one appreciates outside intervention. We respect that, but we’ll keep trying.”

As for Rizieq himself, who is currently a fugitive after having fled to Saudi Arabia to avoid police investigation, Iriawan said the police is willing to wait for his return for as long as possible, saying, “he’ll eventually miss [Indonesia], he will return.”
