After the horrific attacks in Paris that left at least 120 dead and hundreds more injured on Friday, the Jakarta Police said it was tightening security at the French Embassy to guard it from terrorist attacks.
The embassies of several other western countries have been given increased round-the-clock security.
“The embassies of European countries, USA, and Australia are priority, particularly the French Embassy,” said Jakarta Police Spokesman Muhammad Ibqal, as quoted by Tempo yesterday.
“For the French Embassy, we usually deploy two Pamobvit (Vital Objects Security) units, but now there are three.”
In addition, the Brimob [Mobile Brigade] are also going to closely monitor the embassies.
Iqbal said the extra security wasn’t a direct request from the embassies; rather it was the police’s initiative to prevent any unwanted tragedy from happening on Indonesian soil.
