The Jakarta Provincial Government is planning to add five more private hospitals as referral hospitals for COVID-19 patients, as the city recorded its highest daily death toll just yesterday.
Jakarta’s COVID-19 tally stood at 259.305 cases as of yesterday. There were 51 deaths reported yesterday, the capital’s highest since the onset of the pandemic, which brings the total to 4,185.
However, Jakarta’s Health Agency Chief Widyastuti has not confirmed when the new referral hospitals will begin accepting COVID-19 patients.
“We currently have 101 [referral hospitals], the five [new ones] are still in process because the addition is consequently tied to the availability of health workers,” Widyastuti said yesterday.
With reports of hospitals on the brink of collapsing due to rising COVID-19 cases, Widyastuti responded to the question of hospital beds availability and ICU capacity by saying that the provincial government has issued a gubernatorial instruction mandating half the capacity at general hospitals to be allocated for coronavirus patients. She claimed that the real percentage is currently way above the stated limit at 63 percent.
