PT Transportasi Jakarta, a subsidiary company of the Jakarta City Administration, plans on purchasing 70 double-decker buses in December 2014. The buses are meant to solve the transportation problem caused by the city’s ban on motorcycles on some of Jakarta’s major roads that is set to start in December, as well as the implementation of Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) in 2015.

Antonius NS Kosasih, first director at PT Transportasi Jakarta, said the company will soon purchase the double-decker buses. But he said it would take some time for the buses to be delivered to Jakarta.

“We’re purchasing [the buses] next month, so they can’t be delivered right away. We have to order them first, and then they’ll be produced. The buses aren’t ready in stock,” Antonius said on Sunday, as quoted by Warta Kota

PT Tranpostasi Jakarta could not fulfill Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama’s wish for 100 buses at the moment. Antonius said the purchase of the buses has to be done in stages.

“[Former] Governor Jokowi asked for 100 units, and now Governor Ahok too. But we want to buy 70 units to begin with as the first purchase,” he said.

PT Tranportasi Jakarta prepared Rp. 350 billion to buy 70 double-decker buses, which will transport passengers free of charge around the area covered by the motorcycle ban. The money will come from the 2014 Jakarta Regional Budget.

But Antonius did not reveal the manufacturer of the buses.

“We are going to buy international standard double-decker buses from manufacturers with international credibility,” he said.

TransJakarta’s recent bus purchases have gone pretty badly. There have been numerous cases of TransJakarta buses inadvertently catching fireand imported buses that arrived from China already rusty and damaged
