The Jakarta Metro Police will prioritize escalating security measures at four churches throughout the capital during Good Friday mass following the suicide bombing in Makassar, South Sulawesi and attack at the National Police HQ in South Jakarta yesterday evening.

The four churches are Central Jakarta’s St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, or Jakarta Cathedral, in Sawah Besar and Immanuel Church in Gambir, as well as West Jakarta’s Petojo Batak Church (HKBP) in Grogol Petamburan and Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Taman Sari.

“These four major churches will be our priorities, with 155 personnel securing each church,” Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Yusri Yunus told reporters today.

Yusri said the Jakarta Metro Police will deploy more than 5,500 personnel to guard churches ahead of and during the Easter week celebrations. This includes over 830 churches throughout the Greater Jakarta area, which are scheduled to hold Good Friday mass.

Apart from the police and the National Armed Forces (TNI), security will also be assisted from officials of each church. To limit the capacity, Yusri said that each church will be utilizing barcodes to grant entry for congregants.
