Good news for those who wished for railway transport to the north, the KRL Commuterline will once again run on the Jakarta Kota-Tanjung Priok line.
The railway was closed for 7 years. Repairs began several months ago and the Jakarta Kota-Tanjung Priok line is planned to be operational before the end of the year.
“The reopening of the Jakarta Kota-Tanjung Priok line is important as it could be the main access way for the capital’s citizens to get up north and vice versa,” said Bambang Setiyo Prayitno, senior manager of corporate communications at PT KAI Jakarta, as quoted by Warta Kota.
PT KAI has conducted several test runs on the repaired railway, but concedes that they, along with the Jakarta provincial government, must evacuate several illegal settlements built along the railway for safety reasons before it can be fully functional.
The Jakarta Kota-Tanjung Priok line will service four KRL stations: Jakarta Kota, Kampung Bandan, Ancol, and Tanjung Priok.
