The Jakarta Metro Police arrested an English teacher at a private school in East Jakarta over allegations that he sexual harassed four of his female students.
The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Tri Sutrisno, allegedly sent inappropriate, sexually charged messages to his students, including at least two pornographic photos, using the popular chat application Line. One of the student’s parents found out about what Tri had done and reported him to the police, which led to his arrest on August 10 at the school he worked in.
The police say they are still investigating the case to determine if there was any other forms of sexual harassment or abuse committed by the suspect.
“If, in the development of this case, it’s determined that there’s someone who became a victim of (sexual) deviance, then we will give that victim trauma healing,” said Grand Commissioner Hendy F. Kurniawan, head of the Jakarta Metro Police’s violent crimes unit, as quoted by Tempo on Saturday.
Tri Sutrisno was arrested on multiple charges, including violation of Article 76E of the Child Protection Act, which, by itself, carries a minimum sentence of 15 years imprisonment, as well as violations of the Criminal Code (KUHP) and the Information and Electronic Transactions Act (UU ITE).
The Commission for the Protection of Indonesian Children (KPAI) is calling for the most severe of punishment for Tri Sutrisno if he’s proven guilty.
“KPAI asks that he is punished as heavily as possible so that this case can be an example to others who might potentially do the same thing,” said KPAI head Susanto, as quoted by Tempo.
The Jakarta Metro Police say they’re going to work together with KPAI to communicate with the underage victims.
