Razman Arif Nasution, the lawyer representing the Jakarta City Council (DPRD) in the defamation case against Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, was arrested and jailed yesterday for physically assaulting his nephew in 2006.
Razman, who also once represented disgraced former National Police Chief candidate Budi Gunawan, was arrested by officers from the North Sumatera High Court and the East Jakarta District Court in Jalan Djuanda, Central Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon. Razman was taken to serve three months of jail time at the Cipinang penitentiary in East Jakarta.
“This arrest was based on the Supreme Court’s decision, stating that Razman was convicted of committing physical assault,” said Nanang Sigit, assistant Intel at the North Sumatera High Court, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.
The North Sumatera High Court sentenced Razman to three months in prison in 2010. Curiously, the lawyer is finally serving his jail sentence just after he was chosen to represent the DPRD in legal disputes with Governor Ahok.
