After days of indecision, the Jakarta City Administration and the City Council today finally agreed on the fares for MRT Jakarta, the country’s first ever subway service.
As reported by Detik, the lowest fare has been set at IDR3K while the longest trip — from South Jakarta’s Lebak Bulus station to Central Jakarta’s Bundaran HI station — will cost IDR14K.

Broken down, each fare consists of a boarding fee of IDR1,500 plus IDR850 for every kilometer traveled. There is also a minimum tariff of IDR3K if a passenger taps in and out at the same station.
With the above fares, the Jakarta City Administration’s subsidy for tickets is estimated to reach IDR672 billion for 2019.
MRT Jakarta was inaugurated on March 24, but rides are still free until March 31 (subject to online registration) because the Jakarta City Administration and the City Council did not see eye-to-eye on fares and subsidies before its launch date. Full commercial operations are expected to commence on April 1.
