“It’ll be hard to get out of your car to pee”: Heavy traffic predicted on toll roads for long weekend

As is usually the case with long weekends like the one coming up starting on Thursday, Jakarta will experience a mini exodus of sorts with many of its citizens driving east to spend their holidays in Bandung or beyond in Central or East Java.

As a result, the Jakarta Traffic Police are predicting that there will be heavy traffic jams on toll roads leading away from the capital starting tomorrow, as one commander eloquently put it:

“If you don’t want to get stuck in traffic jams, it’d be better to take alternative routes. If you get stuck in a traffic jam you won’t be able to go anywhere, it’d even be difficult to pee. But in alternative routes you can stop to eat and you can fill up petrol at many available petrol stations,” said Jakarta Traffic Police Director Risyapudin Nursin, as quoted by Detik today.

The details of these hopefully traffic jam-free alternate routes eastwards can be seen here.

We don’t know about you, but we’re going to pass on taking a road trip this upcoming long weekend. Jakarta over long holidays is uncharacteristically quiet and it’s so much easier to navigate the city and appreciate all the things it has to offer.
