Ireland has officially opened its embassy in Jakarta

A little piece of the Emerald Isle has come to Jakarta now that the nation of Ireland has officially opened its first embassy in Indonesia.

According to the official website of Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the new Irish ambassador, Kyle O’Sullivan, presented his credentials to President Joko Widodo October 13. The new embassy is located in the World Trade Centre building.

The news was also confirmed by Ireland’s foreign minister, Charles Flanagan while meeting Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi in Luxemburg during the 12th Asia-Europe Meeting on November 5.

During their meeting Retno asked Flanagan to support Indonesia’s proposal to grant its citizens visa-free travel to the 26 countries within the Schengen Area of Europe. Flanagan said Ireland would strongly consider the request.

Flanagan also said Ireland would be sending Ambassador O’Sullivan to the Bali Democracy Forum taking place from December 9-10.

We would like to warmly welcome the new Irish ambassador and the members of his mission to Jakarta. Without assuming anything or engaging in any stereotyping, we would just like to note that the city’s best Irish pub is Murphy’s in Kemang (and we can say that because it’s run by an actual Irishman.)
