Jakarta has been included in many lists of cities with the most active social media users ever since technology made it possible for people to share their thoughts and photos online (to the point that Jakarta has been called the “Twitter capital of the world”). And now, it seems that we in Jakarta are among the most ardent of photo takers and uploaders as well.
Instagram recently released their list of the world’s favorite Instagram destinations. Jakarta entered the list at number 10 for the most geotagged cities on Instagram this year.
Not counting Istanbul (which is half Europe/half Asia) at number 9, that makes us the city with the most Instagram geotags in all of Asia this year.
Snap-happy Jakartans will be extra pleased to learn that our city did not make the top 10 last year, which possibly points to a surge in Instagram use in the capital this year. New York retains the top spot this year, followed by London and Moscow.
Despite Jakarta making the list, there were no specific locations in the capital (or all of Indonesia for that matter) that made it to the top 10 of Instagram’s most geotagged locations of 2016. That honor falls to Disney theme parks around the globe.
