The Singapore Flyer quickly became an iconic addition to the Lion City’s landscape. Soon Jakarta will have an over-the-top ferris wheel of its very own, and while it won’t be nearly as big as the Flyer, it will have one feature that is definitely going to make it stand out: its placement on top of a multi-story shopping center.

The Ferris wheel is set to be built on top of the still-under-construction AEON Mall in Cakung, East Jakarta, (not to be confused with and its unique placement will make it the tallest in all of Indonesia.

“The Ferris wheel will be built on top of AEON Mall, precisely on the third floor. With a diameter of 50 meters and a total height of 69 meters above the ground, it will be the highest Ferris wheel in Indonesia,” said Supratman, operational technical director at PT Momozen Amusement Indonesia, the company charged with constructing the Ferris wheel, at a press conference yesterday as quoted by Kompas.

According to Supratman, the wheel will feature 32 gondolas, each equipped with air conditioning and a “luxurious interior”. They will also be soundproof and vibration-resistant.

In case the prospect of riding a giant Ferris wheel built on top of a shopping center in Indonesia gives you pause, the construction company wants to address your concerns.

“To ensure the safety, security and comfort of visitors, all construction materials and expert staff will be brought directly from Japan,” said Gosuke Sakai, the company’s president director.

Construction on the Ferris already began in January and is scheduled to be completed by August. Then the plan is for it to be ready and open to the public in September.
