Indonesia’s National Commission for Child Protection joins police in warning parents about panda sex kids clothes

Hopefully you saw our story about Indonesia’s national police going to Facebook to appeal to the public to prevent the sale of kids clothing covered in pandas having sex (it has been viewed over 250,000 times and was picked up by Time and the Daily Mail, amongst others).

Well it’s not just the Police Public Relations Division that is taking the threat of panda sex kids clothes very seriously (despite the fact that the photo bears the mark of Internet meme central 9GAG).

The National Commission for Child Protection has joined the police in warning the public about the pernicious panda sex apparel problem.

“We support the Police Public Relations Division. Parents and children also need to be careful. [The panda sex shirt] seems to have been widely circulated. Therefore, I think we should applaud the members of the public who report it to the police in the first place,” said the director of the National Commission for Child Protection, Arist Merdeka Sirait, as quoted by BBC Indonesia

Wahyu Hidayat, a member of the police public relations division, told BBC Indonesia that the police had received reports from the public regarding the shirts on February 17, which is why they posted the warning on their Facebook page.

“We received many BBM (Blackberry Messenger) broadcasts and messages from the internet [regarding the panda sex shirts]. That’s why we took the step of appealing to the public to be careful and to report them to the nearest police station, if they find the sale of t-shirts like that,” Wahyu said.

The police say the rogue manufacturer of the panda sex shirts is still unknown because they have not received any more reports from the public.

Judging from the response this story has received from overseas, the manufacturers, if they were ever in Indonesia, probably realized they could make a killing selling the shirts to hipsters in America and decided to move their operations elsewhere.
