Indonesian woman claims her Samsung A3 phone caught on fire while her son was playing with it

With all the bad press South Korean electronic giants Samsung has received for the Galaxy Note 7 phone, millions of which were recalled after worldwide reports of faulty and potentially explosive batteries, it appears that their problems may not be limited to just one phone model if this claim from an Indonesian woman is to be believed.

Vera Devona on Wednesday shared these photos on Facebook and wrote about how her Samsung A3 phone caught on fire.

According to Vera’s post, on the evening of September 19, her young son was playing with her A3 in bed when the phone suddenly emitted thick smoke that filled the room, along with a burning smell. The phone burnt her son’s hand and she thought it could’ve set fire to the bed as well if she hadn’t kicked it to the floor.

Vera noted that the phone was unplugged at the time and that it was being used normally.

Vera then wrote that she took the burnt phone to the Samsung Service Center in Mal Ambasador the next day expecting some sort of compensation, but the service rep instead said she would have to pay Rp 3 million for a replacement phone.

No word as to whether she got the replacement phone or not, but Vera ended her post by writing that she decided to share her story on social media as a precautionary tale to others and in the hopes that Samsung, as well as other phone manufacturers, be more thorough in the quality control of their phones.

Samsung has not officially responded to Vera’s post, though the post itself has been shared over 8,000 times at the time of writing, going viral to the point that her story was covered by local media such as Detik.

What Vera did not mention in her post, however, is whether or not she has exclusively been using original Samsung accessories, such as their phone charger, for her A3. There have been multiple reports around the world of phones exploding due to use of third-party accessories.
