Singaporeans and many outside the city-state are in mourning over the passing of Lee Kuan Yew, known as the father of modern Singapore.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla said that Lee Kuan Yew was a hugely influential figure not only in Singapore, but throughout Asia.
“Indonesia is grieving over the death of Lee Kuan Yew, the father of Singapore and an important Asian leader,” Kalla said this morning as quoted by MetroTV.
The vice president said that, under Lee, Singapore has grown rapidly and had a huge impact on other ASEAN countries.
“His ideas have always been inspiring to Asia,” he added.
Lee Kuan Yew passed away at Singapore General Hospital at 3:18 am this morning Singapore time. He was 91 years old.
