Indonesian politicians inserting themselves into Argentina’s World Cup glory has us saying ‘¿por que no?’

Fifteen thousand, six hundred and thirty-nine kilometers from Argentina, politicians in Indonesia are hailing the South Americans’ recent World Cup success — while finding amazing ways to make it about them.

Images of Lionel Messi and pals celebrating their long-awaited World Cup victory were relegated to the background of congratulatory posters by a couple of Indonesian lawmakers and legislative candidates, as reposted by the popular football meme aggregator Plesbol.

The first poster features an almost unreadable red text that reads, “The first and biggest victory is overcoming one’s self.” Inspirational stuff and undoubtedly very, tremendously original.

The third poster, while totally awesome, is missing an “s” in “congratulations.”

Commenters weren’t as kind as we were to the politicians, as the posters were met with sarcastic mockery and downright condemnation. Some joked that the politicians should run for seats in Buenos Aires, while others did not mince their words when they accused the politicians of piggybacking on Argentina’s glory.

What these naysayers don’t seem to understand is that it is the highest form of honor for the Argentinian heroes to feature in the same poster as our politicians. In fact, we at Coconuts aspire to inspire like they do, as our poster at the very top of this article shows. ¿Por que no, eh?

After all, it has become somewhat of a tradition for Indonesian politicians to honor successful athletes with awesome congratulatory posters.
