An Indonesian man has been arrested on suspicion of pedophilia and soliciting pornography from minors, police said, using popular online game Free Fire as bait.

The National Police’s Crime Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) received a tip from the Commission for the Protection of Indonesian Children (KPAI) about the suspect, who is identified by his initial S, in August.

The agency recently arrested S, a 21-year-old South Sulawesi citizen, in his place of residence in East Kalimantan.

According to the police, S has preyed on 11 underage girls, all of whom he had given Diamonds, aka in-game currency in Free Fire, in exchange for their self-shot pornographic photos and videos.

“There were 11 girls, aged 9 to 17, spread throughout Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua,” National Police spokesman Ahmad Ramadhan said today.

Four of the victims have been identified and questioned for the investigation. The identities of the other seven remain unknown.

S has been charged with violation of the Child Protection Law, which could see him imprisoned for up to 15 years, as well as violation of the Pornography law, which carries a maximum punishment of 12 years in prison.
