A shocking case of domestic violence occurred in Padang Lawas Regency, North Sumatra in which a man named Muksin Nasution brutally injured his wife’s genitals because she refused to have sex with him.
The victim suffered severe bleeding and had to be rushed to the hospital.
Police said the incident happened on April 26 at the couple’s house in Parsombaan Village, Lubuk Barumun District.
“The culprit demanded sex, but his wife refused,” Barumun Police Chief Miptahuddin said yesterday.
“The victim refused because the suspect would often torture her during sex, so the victim was traumatized. [Then the suspect] made a 10 centimeter tear in her genitals using his hands.”
Muksin fled the scene following the assault. His wife eventually received intensive medical care.
Police arrested Muksin on Tuesday in Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency. He is now facing charges of domestic violence under Article 44 of Law No. 23 of 2004 on Elimination of Domestic Violence, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
The story illustrates the pervasive problem of gender-based violence in Indonesia, where women are often subjected to physical and sexual abuse by their intimate partners – men with apparent fragile masculinity who can’t accept being denied sex.
