Indonesian authorities have confirmed that its citizen was arrested by local authorities for a series of alleged sexual crimes and assaults carried out in Palo Alto and the University of California, Berkeley.

As reported by CBS News, Palo Alto Police identified the suspect as 34-year-old Daniel Widyanto Condronimpuno of Palm Beach, Florida. UC Berkeley Police arrested Daniel on April 11 following a report that a woman was assaulted near a student housing complex.

The suspect was then linked to a sexual assault incident on March 9 of a woman at a pedestrian underpass in Palo Alto. Daniel may also be linked to two other sexual battery cases at UC Berkeley on April 5 and 9, during which he allegedly grabbed female students’ private body parts over their clothing.

Daniel remains in custody on charges of attempted rape by force, sexual penetration by force, assault with intent to commit rape, forcible sexual battery, false imprisonment, felony battery, assault with a deadly weapon, and robbery.

Judha Nugaraha, the director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Indonesian Citizen Protection department, confirmed to Kompas TV today that Daniel is an Indonesian national.

“He was arrested by UC Berkeley Police on April 11 for alleged sexual assaults,” he said.

Judha added that Daniel attended his first hearing on April 13, and that the Indonesian Consulate General in San Francisco has been assigned to ensure that the suspect is afforded his legal rights throughout his trial.
