How do you announce to the world that you are a man who charges money for sexual services without also attracting too much unwanted attention? We’d imagine most people in that situation would post an anonymous message on a shady internet forum, but it seems one Indonesian man decided to make that statement by getting some cheeky custom license plates reading D 616 OLO, the last six alphanumerics apparently alluding to GIGOLO.
Whatever the intention behind the custom plates, they ended up attracting the attention of law enforcement in the city of Purwakarta, West Java, yesterday.
The owner of the silver Honda Brio (not exactly the type of car we’d imagine a gigolo to be driving, but whatever) to which the plates were attached did not get busted for prostituting himself, however. The police’s problem was with the plates themselves.
“The Honda Brio was ticketed because its license plates are not in accordance with the vehicle registration,” Purwakarta Police Chief Hanny Hidayat told Detik on Tuesday.
Hanny said the car was ticketed Tuesday morning after an officer noticed the unusual license plate at an intersection. After checking the car’s registration number and comparing it to the police database, the officer found the custom plates were not registered with the government (the original license plate number being a distinctly unsexy T 1760 AI).
Mr. 616 OLO faces a maximum fine of Rp 500,000 and up to two months in prison for using the unregistered plates. Drivers using multiple unregistered license plates is not exactly a rare occurrence in Indonesia.
