It has become evident that the law couldn’t move on from what is arguably the Indonesia’s biggest sex scandal of the year after the Jakarta Metro Police today named singer/actress Gisella Anastasia a suspect over her alleged leaked sex tape.

Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Yusri Yunus said the celebrity, who is popularly known as Gisel, confessed to be the woman in the sex tape, which also featured a man identified by his initials MYD. Gisel had previously been questioned as a witness on two occasions by the Jakarta Metro Police.
“GA (Gisel) confessed, and this was strengthened by testimony from video forensic and IT experts. GA and MYD confessed that the video, which spread on social media, featured themselves and that it was taken in 2017 at a hotel in Medan,” Yusri said at a press conference today.
Gisel and MYD may face up to 12 years in prison for producing and distributing pornographic content under Indonesia’s anti-pornography law.
It would theoretically be difficult for the police to prove intent on Gisel’s part as the sex tape was said to have been recorded privately and for private use before it leaked to the public in November of this year.
However, the anti-pornography law has been criticized for being ambiguous in terms of defining the victims and perpetrators. Perhaps the biggest sex scandal the country has ever seen was that of Noah frontman Nazril Irham (better known as Ariel), who was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for appearing in separate sex tapes with actresses Luna Maya and Cut Tari. There was no evidence then that Ariel was the one who leaked the videos himself, but he was convicted on the grounds of negligence for failing to safeguard his NSFW content. He was released after serving two years of his sentence.
