A cash on delivery (COD) courier in Banyuasin, South Sumatra nearly lost his life after a customer stabbed him when refusing to pay for a package he delivered.

According to the police, the victim, 22-year-old courier Akbar Makrup, delivered a package to the perpetrator’s home on Saturday at 2pm. As it was a COD order, Akbar asked the perpetrator to pay for the package on the spot, but the latter promised him that he would bring the money to the courier’s office later in the afternoon.

The perpetrator never showed up with the money and he grew irritated that Akbar kept calling him to pay, as the courier was being held accountable by his supervisor. Akbar returned to the house at 4pm to retrieve the package, but the perpetrator and his family refused to hand it back.

At 5pm, the perpetrator and his family went to the courier’s office and told Akbar to retrieve the package from their house. Half an hour later, Akbar and a colleague drove over to the perpetrator’s house, where danger awaited them.

“The perpetrator and his family were waiting for the victim’s arrival with [the perpetrator] holding a knife and saying, ‘go grab the package.’ The package was placed on the front porch of the perpetrator’s house,” Banyuasin Police Crime Investigation Unit Chief Harry Dinar said.

As Akbar retrieved the package, the perpetrator lunged forward and stabbed the courier just below his left armpit. The perpetrator also tried to stab Akbar’s colleague, who luckily managed to flee from the scene unharmed.

The perpetrator also fled and is currently wanted by police. Akbar, whose wound thankfully did not prove to be fatal, was rushed to a hospital.

Footage of the assault, which was taken by Akbar’s colleague, went viral after it was posted online.
