High school bikini party event organizers disband amid social pressure

Remember the ‘Splash After Class’ end of high school bikini party back in April? You wouldn’t, because it was cancelled after several groups, including the Indonesian Commission for Child Protection (KPAI), were outraged that such an event would happen in Indonesia.

And now, the event’s organizers, Divine Production, confirmed that they disbanded as a result of the controversial cancelled party.

“We officially disbanded on July 1,” said former Divine Production CEO Immanuel Tulus Hasiholan, as quoted by Okezone yesterday.

Divine Production made the fatal mistake of including the names of participating high schools on the event poster (even though most claimed to have never heard of the event before the controversy). This led to those schools filing a lawsuit for defamation against Divine, though most of the charges were dropped after Divine apologized to the schools and the public.

Divine had actually organized three bikini pool parties for high school students before the last one caused controversy.

“[We’ve held] three pool parties. But the last one was the first time [we included the names] of institutions,” Immanuel said.

The “Splash After Class” bikini pool party was an event planned for April 25 at The Media Hotel and Towers in Central Jakarta, to celebrate high school graduation. It was cancelled after the event drew the outrage of many, including the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), which argued the event’s dress code violated social norms and could lead to violence against women.
