Soekarno-Hatta International Airport’s new and eagerly anticipated Terminal 3 is finally going to open its doors on August 9, servicing national flagship carrier Garuda Indonesia’s domestic flights in its initial stage of operations.
Garuda’s partial move to Terminal 3 frees up space in Terminal 2, which consequently requires other airlines to move around to new host terminals. Airport management PT Angkasa Pura II outlined the new airline-terminal designations during a press announcement event yesterday, as picked up by Detik:
Terminal 1 A-C: Lion Air Group
Terminal 2 D: Other domestic flights
Terminal 2 E: International flights
Terminal 2 F: Sriwijaya Air and Air Asia
Terminal 3: Garuda Indonesia (domestic)
If you’re already thinking that cramming all international flights into one terminal is a terrible idea, it should be noted that this new arrangement is only valid until the new Terminal 3 becomes fully operational – and that isn’t too far off.
“After Terminal 3 is fully finished in March next year, then all international flights will be moved to this terminal,” said PT Angkasa Pura II First Director Djoko Muratmodjo, as quoted by Merdeka yesterday.
The “old” Terminal 3, which currently serves Air Asia and Lion Air flights, will be renovated and joined with the new Terminal 3 (previously called Terminal 3 Ultimate) by that time as well, so any worries about confusion on what to call the two terminals can hopefully be put to bed then.
