Since he officially got promoted to governor in November of last year, Basuki Ahok Tjahaja Purnama has definitely made a big impact on Jakarta.
People are split on whether that impact is good or not. With his aggressive and decisive leadership style, Ahok’s made plenty of enemies along the way, been protested dozens of times and even had his home attacked. But through all of it, he has never backed down from his mission of making Jakarta a better city for its people, no matter what.
While we don’t agree with all of his decisions, we think Ahok has done a bang up job so far – fighting the city’s worst problems, like flooding, corruption and macet, while generally being a total badass.
So today we’d like to not only give the governor a big happy birthday but also congratulate him on a job done well so far. And we’re not the only ones – many friends of Ahok have gone on Twitter today to send their birthday greetings to the governor. Here’s a few of our favs:
