It was in 1527 when General Fatahillah conquered this city – then known as Sunda Kelapa – from Portuguese settlers and renamed it Jayakarta. Exactly 488 years and several transformations later, Jakarta is now one of the biggest megapolises in the world.
It’s also a city infamously known for its macet, banjir, and crime. But those of us who can look past the negatives also can’t help but fall in love with this grand city, full of great people, food, entertainment and all-round awesomeness.
