When a half-naked corpse of a woman was found floating on the Kali Baru River in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta on Tuesday, her identity remained a mystery. Now, the police have revealed, quite shockingly, that the body belonged to a woman who went missing 20 years ago.
“So the woman left home more than 20 years ago. She left when she was in middle school,” said head of the Crime Investigation Unit at the Kramat Jati Police, Bara Libra Sagita, as quoted by Vivanews today.
The police came to the conclusion when the victim’s family came forward to identify the body. The family was positive that the body belonged to the girl who left them a long time ago, but they asked for her identity to remain guarded from media exposure.
The woman was found dead. wearing only a bra and trousers, on Tuesday. The police suspect that she died on Monday evening. From initial medical examinations, it was thought she fell and drowned into the river.
