Haji Lulung is everywhere these days; he’s on key chains, t-shirts, Internet memes and even video games. The vice chairman of the Jakarta City Council everybody loves to laugh at has become arguably the most popular politician in Indonesia over the past couple of weeks.
Much to his credit, Haji Lulung doesn’t mind all of the public reaction to his newfound fame, for better or for worse.
“I don’t have a problem. I won’t even have a problem if people beat me up. People here are creative. The youth need an [creative] outlet. There wasn’t an outlet before, now I’m part of that outlet,” Lulung told Kompas last night.
Haji Lulung isn’t offended that his image rights is being used in the production of Haji Lulung key chains and t-shirts for profit gains.
“Yesterday the key chain maker called me and told me he’s receiving large orders. There are also t-shirts. There’s no problem. I even bought three,” he said.
